We are presenting a feature on Car T-W Cells in this issue. This fantastic immunotherapy is like a science fiction that took 50 years in making. Do you know that the person who came up with the idea was not a scientist or professor of haematology but a resident and a surgeon!
In 1968, as a resident, Dr. Steven Rosenberg removed gallbladder of a man who, 12 years earlier, had a spontaneous regression of his gastric cancer without any treatment. Realization that the man’s immune system must have eliminated his cancer set Dr. Rosenberg on a lifelong journey to find out how he might be able to replicate this feat for patients with cancer.
